A little bit retro

•January 23, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I’ve been collecting a small pile of  photographs and postcards from various places over the past term and couldn’t quite decide what to do with them. Some of these images date back from 1904 which is an amazing feeling to know that you can hold something so ephemeral that has lasted over 100 years.

I then came across the posters of Stéphane Massa-Bidal from Retrofuturs,  which I find incredibly inspiring. I also found the work of Chad Hagen who dips into a nostalgic selection of retro graphics that are truly delightful.

A giant thank you to Ben Rose who sent me the most amazing postcard (fourth one down) which he purchased in an old Brighton junk shop and also to Rosemary Duffy who’s photographs (five and nine) I have also used.

The following postcards designed by myself are influenced by their approach to vintage imagery.

Printer Spit

You know when you must go through the laborious task of aligning one’s printer cartridges every once and a while? Well, my printer decided to do this voluntarily as if it was fed up with the masses of graphics work I’ve been churning out for the past term.

So yes, here is the spit of my printer. I think they look quite interesting.

Well, this is a very special post indeed as it marks my 100th post to date. Thank you to all my subscribers. So in celebration I thought I would share some images from today.

I really like the ‘frozen droplet’ as you can see the sky in it’s reflection. Let me know which one is your favourite.

“Snow has fallen round about, deep and crisp and even.”

I’ve been to my local second hand bookshop again and delved into the big box of old postcards. I loved the handwriting on the back, I wish I could write like this!

The Christmas Collection

“Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?”

A few postcards for the Christmas series. Filled with vintage drawings, ephemera and all the other random stuff I seem to collect. The top one has been printed fifty times for a special over-sized edition. These will be making their way to anyone I have sent a postcard to in the past six months.
